The Proverbs 356 Book "From Gang Leader to School Leader," is a powerful testimony of redemption, purpose, and Gods ability to make a straight path out of broken beginnings. This book traces Franklin’s journey from expulsion and gang involvement to becoming a respected school and district leader. Living proof that punishment does not transform hearts, but healing does. Equal parts testimony and call to action, this book invites readers to trust The Lord's process, believe in second chances, and help rebuild lives, systems, and futures, one restored path at a time.
The Trauma Responsive Toolkit is designed to compliment the authors memoir; Proverbs 356. The Toolkit offers a practical framework to help schools move from reaction to prevention and from punishment to purposeful support. It was developed from real-life experience, not abstract theory. Shaped by lived moments as a student whose trauma went unnoticed, an educator who rebuilt broken systems, and a leader who witnessed how early intervention can alter life trajectories. While grounded in research and aligned with state and federal MTSS expectations, every tool in this guide reflects practices that have been tested in real schools, under real conditions, with real students and staff.

Proverbs 356 -Testimonies

"Proverbs 356 is one of the most impactful books I have read in my career as a principal. Donzell doesn’t just tell a story, he exposes the blind spots in our systems with honesty and courage. His journey forced me to reflect on how many times we may have disciplined pain instead of addressing it. This book has reshaped how our leadership team approaches behavior, MTSS, and student support. It is required reading for any school leader committed to real, systemic change."— Dr. Angela Morris, High School Principal

Trauma Responsive Toolkit -Testimonials

Pilot School district Testimony
"After implementing The Battle-Tested Trauma-Responsive Toolkit across our district, we saw a 38% reduction in out-of-school suspensions within the first year. Discipline referrals shifted from punitive to supportive, and our MTSS documentation now clearly reflects Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 deployment with fidelity. The Trauma Context Boxes and Weekly Behavior Autopsies provided defensible documentation aligned with ESSA, IDEA, and OCR expectations. More importantly, our disproportionality data began trending in the right direction. This toolkit did not just improve climate—it strengthened our compliance posture and ensured students remained connected to instruction."— District Superintendent

What Readers say about Proverbs 356

“This book changed the way I see my students and my staff. Donzell Franklin’s story is raw, honest, and deeply convicting. It reminded me that behavior is often a survival response, not a character flaw. After reading From Gang Leader to School Leader, we began rethinking our discipline systems and strengthening our Tier 1 supports. Every superintendent and principal should read this.”— Dr. Marcus Hill, Superintendent
★★★★★
“When I finished this book, I cried. Not because it was sad, but because it was real. It showed me that someone who stood where I stand now made it out, not by being perfect, but by growing. It made me want to take school seriously and think bigger about my future.”- James Oliver First-Generation College Student Chicago State Univer
★★★★★
“Mr. Franklin was the first adult who ever pulled me aside and asked what was going on in my life instead of just writing me up. I didn’t know how to say I was hurting, so I acted out. He understood that. His book tells the truth about kids like me. If more schools led the way he does, fewer students would fall through the cracks.”— Class of 2011 Graduate Curtis School of Excellence

What School Districts are saying about The Toolkit

"I have led schools for over fifteen years, and I have never experienced a framework this practical and this human at the same time. The five modules build on each other in a way that feels intentional and sustainable. Module 4, Relationships as Infrastructure, completely changed how we deploy support. No student in our building is invisible anymore. The fidelity tools are what make it work. Weekly Behavior Autopsies exposed patterns we had missed for years. The Response Playbook unified our adult language. The Calm-First protocol stopped regret-driven discipline. Our staff morale improved because we finally had systems that made sense. This toolkit didn’t just change our policies—it changed our posture.” — High School Principal East St. Loius IL
★★★★★
"Within six mont implementing the five modules, our building experienced a 42% reduction in repeat referrals among identified Tier 2 students. Staff reported increased confidence in handling escalations due to the Response Playbook and Calm-First protocols. Our adult regulation practices also reduced burnout indicators. Teachers reported feeling more supported during escalations, and we saw fewer reactive discipline decisions. The framework gave us structure, predictability, and measurable improvement in both student behavior and adult response consistency."— High School Principal Compton Ca
★★★★★
"The toolkit strengthened our early identification systems. Students meeting the 3-referral trigger were contacted within 24 hours, and 67% of those students showed improved behavioral outcomes within one grading period.Discipline disproportionality gaps narrowed after implementing context-based documentation and pattern analysis. We were able to demonstrate clear Tier 2 and Tier 3 intervention activation prior to exclusionary consequences. This level of fidelity is critical for both equity and federal MTSS alignment."— Director of Student Services Atlanta Ga

About The Author
Donzell Franklin’s life and leadership are rooted in the truth of Proverbs 3:5–6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” His journey is living proof of what happens when faith, obedience, and purpose intersect.
Once expelled from the public school system and labeled “one of those kids,” Donzell’s path could have ended in destruction. Instead, he trusted God through seasons of loss, trauma, and uncertainty and that trust redirected his life. What began as survival on his block, became service in schools. Donzell is a respected school leader, district-level administrator, community activist, author, and national voice for trauma-responsive education.
As the author of Proverbs 3:5-6 and creator of The Battle-Tested Trauma-Responsive Toolkit, Donzell brings a perspective shaped not by theory, but by testimony. He has lived the consequences of systems that punish pain and he has led the work of rebuilding systems that heal. His approach blends faith, structure, accountability, and compassion to create environments where students and educators can grow.
Whether writing, training educators, advising districts, coaching/mentoring youth or delivering keynotes and commencement addresses, he leads with humility and conviction, trusting God’s direction even when the path is unclear.
His testimony shows us that miracles are possible; when we stop leaning on our own understanding and trust God fully, broken paths can be straightened, purpose can be restored, and lives can be transformed.
